The design of Alta California Elementary School is highlighted by its use of open space within a compact infill parcel of 4.3 acres. SVA’s design used a double-loaded corridor design to maximize indoor classroom space that created small enclaves of classroom separated by multiple open courtyards that function as flexible outdoor learning environments. The learning courtyards open to the center of campus and the playfields, maximizing the sense of open space. Sustainable design features are prominent throughout the facility design and this project earned CHPS certification.
