With 56 points, La Escuelita Education Center is the highest scoring CHPS Verified Leader in the state of California. The project was separated into two phases, consisting of La Escuelita Elementary School (phase I) and MetWest High School (phase II). This multi-school project establishes 21st century educational spaces for students as well as a community center for the broader Oakland community. Sustainable design features are the hallmark of the La Escuelita Education Center, with evaporative cooling, photovoltaic energy, rainwater aqueducts, thermal mass construction, daylighting orientation, and displacement ventilation.
