City of Bell Gardens Aquatic Center

Bell Gardens, CA

City of Bell Gardens
7,000 sq. ft.

In 2017, the City of Bell Gardens determined that the Aquatics Center at John Anson Ford Park was no longer operational due to maintenance and safety concerns.  Together with RJM Landscape Design, SVA is designing the replacement facility that will reinvigorate the community and bring back and sorely missed public amenity.

The new Aquatics Center will be redesigned on 2.1-acre site. The building interior will feature a new lobby entrance/reception, new staff offices, staff lounge/break room, janitor’s closet and storage for both pool and mechanical equipment. The building will be also receive an ADA upgrades and gender-neutral bathrooms. The outdoor area will be composed of four distinct elements. The first is a 50m x 25yd competition pool, which will serve primarily for lap swimming, swim meets, and water polo matches. The second is the 1,000 sq. ft. therapy pool, which will provide space for water aerobics and swimming lessons in a more private setting. The third is a 6,000 sq. ft. recreation pool which will provide more family friendly amenities including a slide and zero-depth entry. Finally, the picnic area will provide a shaded lounging space and bench seating with storage underneath.
