Domain by Alta brings 264 units of rental housing to the urban core of Oakland, California. This new project connects diverse elements in a collection of historic homes known as Preservation Park and the iconic towers of the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building, along the 13th Street pedestrian promenade terminating at the BART station. The design blends three more conventional housing wings placed around south-facing courtyards with a loft-style unit building to the north along 14th Street. The subterranean and street level parking garage is ringed at grade by live/ work loft units, 2,400 sq. ft. of retail space, a gymnasium and lobby. The design was formulated, scrutinized, presented to the city and approved in record time to meet the city’s rigorous schedule of project approvals.
