Lakeside Library

San Diego, CA

County of San Diego
17,000 sq. ft.

The design for the new Lakeside Library celebrates the beauty and natural diversity of Lindo Lake and its surrounding region while promoting environmental stewardship through sustainability and innovative building materials. SVA is teaming up with Turner Construction for this exciting Design-Build project that will see the construction of a new 17,000 sq. ft. branch library for the County of San Diego. The library will include an Entry Lobby, Community Rooms, a Great Room/Marketplace, Adult Area, Teen Area, Children’s Area, Study Rooms, Homework Center, Manager’s Office, and Workroom.

As a response to County and State initiatives to reduce energy consumption, the library is designed to be a Zero Net Energy facility. Photovoltaic arrays will be placed on the roof to harvest the natural energy of the sun, offsetting as much as 110% of the building’s projected annual energy. Canopies and clerestories strategically direct diffused lighting throughout the facility to lessen the building’s reliance on artificial lighting. Other sustainable features include window glazing and low-maintenance fiber cement boards.
