SVA Team takes Tour of San Diego Projects

San Diego, CA, April 13, 2019 – The SVA team headed down to San Diego County for a tour of several of the firm’s projects in the region. The San Diego team played host to many of the employees from the Santa Ana office, showcasing the hard work on several different projects as well as making a visit to SVA’s new San Diego office.

The tour comprised a number of completed and ongoing projects highlighted by:

San Dieguito Academy Arts & Humanities Building, Encinitas, California – The new Arts & Humanities Building replaces two aging single-story buildings with a new two-story building with 33 classrooms, including five larger Arts and Digital Media Classrooms. The Arts classrooms are clustered at one wing of the building and employ motorized bi-fold doors to open up onto an Arts Patio with outdoor workspace and event space. This project is part of SVA’s needs assessment and campus master plan concept for San Dieguito High School Academy, which also included a new track and field, math/science building, and culinary arts lab.

City of San Diego San Ysidro Library, San Ysidro, California – This project is a design-build library that will replace the existing 4,089 sq. ft. San Ysidro Branch Library, which was built in 1924 and is both outdated and inadequate to serve the growing San Ysidro community. The new single-story building totals 15,000 sq. ft and consists of entry/community services, a computer lab, reader service area, informal reading/special feature area, reference area, multipurpose room, adult/young adult area, children’s area, and staff support areas. The library will obtain LEED Silver Certification.

Celadon at 9th and Broadway,  San Diego, California –Prominently located in downtown San Diego, this new urban residential community exemplifies sustainable development. The 17-story high-rise provides quality, low-cost housing along with commercial retail space and multiple levels of underground parking. Three blocks from a major trolley stop and near various other amenities, Celadon offers 250 affordable studio and one-bedroom units over 4,500 sq. ft. of retail and 4,000 sq. ft. of office space for residential services. Residents are encouraged to interact with one another via the retail space below as well as within a community room and terrace on the ground floor, two resident terraces and garden on the fifth floor, and a terrace on the fifteenth floor. This LEED Gold certified project features an eco-roof with drought-tolerant planting, landscaping, and a 143-foot-tall solar photovoltaic system, the tallest electrical solar system of its kind in the United States.
